The Artist conjures up the image of times past when this spot was central to everyday life in the countryside and was the hub of activity in the community. He imagines the man of the house, busy all day long every day, in all weathers, doing all his errands there, making and mending furniture, chopping wood, sharpening tools and repairing bridles, saddle-bags and harnesses for the donkey, and chatting with neighbours and friends.
